Once upon a time, an ocean bird came to the suburb of the State Lu. To receive the bird, Duke Lu prepared a banquet in the ancestral temple. When the ocean bird appeared, Duke Lu ordered his men to play a musical composition called Jiu Shao, and tried to entertain it various kinds of meat. The ocean bird, however, was really frightened by such grand ceremony and became very depressed. The bird didn’t even drink a cup of wine. It died three days later.
Duke Lu wanted to raise the bird in the way he was served, rather than the way a bird should be raised, so the result was not strange at all.
