在美国城乡,咖啡店(兼营冰滇淋)、麦当劳快餐店比比皆是,前者恰似中国四川的茶馆,后者很像四川小吃店,杭州小吃店。到咖啡店,喝一杯咖啡一个多美元,吃一份冰淇淋二三美元,边吃边聊,十分惬意。美国的冰淇淋堪称一绝,有各式各样的,上面还撤满了脆香的果仁,十分好吃。麦当劳店更是别具一格:远远望去,不论何时何地的“麦当劳”店都有三面旗子在显眼处飘扬,一是美国国旗,一是州旗,一是店旗。不论哪儿的麦当劳店部生意兴隆,一份三明治或热狗,一袋土豆条或爆米花,一杯饮料,加起来才3.99美元(美国商品标价都这样,以零点九九结尾,决不凑整数,这说明美国商人的精明),何况饮料喝完了再添可不付饯。更有趣的是暑假期间,店里都是雇用一群十二、三岁的女学生,那满脸稚气认真干活的神态,令人喜爱。若遇到假日,顾客较多,这帮女孩身着制服,头带运动帽,还带上一付耳机外加一只小话筒,不时地操作与联络,那认真的劲头好像海湾战争时的多国部队总司令在指挥一场战斗。
