Yu Sheng(1692.1767), a court painter in the Qing Dynasty, was good at painting birds, flowers, insects, fishes, and butterfly in particular. Concurrently, he was proficient at drawing orchid anddaffodill. Sometimes, he refered to techniques of Western painting to set brilliant colors. His style is fully reflected in this painting.
