Summer Scenery at the Foot of Mountain, a Qing Dynasty(1644.1911) hanging scroll by Wang Hui, ink and color on silk, 142.8cm×66.8cm, in the collection of the Palace Museum, Taipei.
Drawn in 1691, the thirtieth year of the Kangxi reign, it is one of Wang Hui’s representative works. In the painting, mountains are surrounded by clouds and mists and there are cottages, bridges and waterfalls. In the distance, a temple with high towers and double-eaved roofs is situated in the mountain. A group of travellers ride horses on the mountain path, appreciating the beautiful scenery.
