Feng Ning was a court painter during the reigns of Qianlong and Jiaqing. He was proficient in drawing characters, pavilions, birds and animals. The painting depicts a scene that a child climbs up to hit qing(an ancient percussion instrument made of jade or stone), which symbolizes auspicious happiness. It shows scenes in imperial palaces during festivals. It adopts a delicate painting technique.
