阅读2011年的短篇小说，经常能发现一些不太熟悉的名字，这是最令我欣喜的事情。短篇小说是最具文学性的小说样式。现代的短篇小说从“五四”写起，一直写到二十一世纪，经历了一个世纪的反复磨炼，应该说已经成为一个相当成熟的文体了。短篇小说代表了传统小说的审美形态，不会去迎合外在的变化。为了适应新的文学生产环境，许多文学样式不得不改头换面，但文学为了适应消费时代的改变，带来的并不是文学的新生，而是文学的泛化、矮化和俗化。优胜劣汰，旧的文学死亡了，会诞生一个新的文学形态，比如网络文学、手机文学。但我始终认为，文化和文学拒绝进化论。因此，能够将一种传统的文学形态保存完好，将是人类文明的幸事。
